I’m there when the future starts with traineeships.

Our traineeships

Our German sites have acted as training centers for commercial and technical vocations for many years. We offer five different traineeships in which you can embark on a career in the sensor technology industry:

Training to be a microtechnologist

How do respiratory devices know at what pressure to administer oxygen into the patient’s airways? And how does an in-car display know that you are currently driving in a 30 km/h zone? It’s simple. Respiratory devices and cars are equipped with a sensor fitted with tiny chips that convert physical parameters like pressure, light, inclination and radiation into an electrical signal.

We offer training as a microtechnologist at the following locations:
  • Specialism in microsystems technology: Berlin-Weißensee and Dresden-Klotzsche
  • Specialism in semiconductor technology: Berlin-Oberschöneweide
Mario Krone completes his traineeship as a microtechnologist at the Berlin-Oberschöneweide site. In the video, he tells how he starts the day, why he decided on this traineeship and what he intends to do after successfully completing it (in German):

Jette Müller is also an expert in this field. She completed her training as a microtechnologist at First Sensor Microelectronic Packaging GmbH in Dresden-Klotzsche and shortly afterwards became deputy shift supervisor. Here you can find out what she likes about First Sensor.

Training to be an industrial business manager

Imagine if you had your own company. You would have to manage and coordinate business processes, set deadlines, organize personnel and, of course, take steps to ensure quality throughout. You can expect your training as an industrial business manager to cover all of these areas. You could be given a desk in almost any commercial area of our company.

During your training you will work your way through the various departments and acquire a wide range of knowledge. In the HR department you will experience the application process from the other perspective, assist with specific employee support and welfare issues, and organize internal events like the annual Trainee Day. Your time in the Finance department will also see you play an active role in monitoring accounting operations. In the Supply Chain Management department you will work alongside our professionals to ensure smooth operations from order intake, commissioning of suppliers and production management right through to goods dispatch.

We offer training as an industrial business manager at our locations in Berlin-Weißensee and Berlin-Oberschöneweide.

Training to be a specialized technician for system integration

If you are familiar with terms like VLAN and client server architecture, and system errors and other malfunctions do not faze you, you should consider training to become a specialized technician for system integration with us. At First Sensor, you will be regarded as a specialist in the setup, operation and administration of systems and networks. When IT problems occur, we will call on you to perform heroic deeds.

During your training you will learn how to manage internal IT systems, databases and servers; how to install and configure hardware and software; and how to create system documentation. You will also acquire skills in problem diagnosis and troubleshooting.

Alongside this specialist expertise, you will also learn to communicate your knowledge in a clear and concise manner. After all, to many people computers are mysterious boxes full of secrets. Being an IT expert means that you can explain complex technical interactions in a straightforward way and help out your colleagues.

Training to be a mechatronics technician

Has a piece of production equipment stopped working again? It doesn’t even cross your mind to call a maintenance engineer. You would much rather roll up your sleeves and get everything back up and running again.

This traineeship will teach you how to replace wearing parts, how to transport and operate machinery, and how to read measuring devices. After three years you will be familiar with an array of technical details and mechanisms, and will be able not only to expertly assemble machinery and equipment, but also to identify and rectify errors. Because our chips and chip assemblies are so fragile, we produce them in clean room facilities with strict specifications regarding how many particles of dirt are permitted per cubic meter of air. Highly complex ventilation systems maintain the required degree of air purity, and these systems require care and maintenance. The equipment in the clean rooms is used around the clock, and also requires constant monitoring, maintenance and servicing. You will learn these skills during your training.

The vocational training content is taught in blocks, which means that you alternate between one week spent at a vocational college and two weeks spent at the company. In the first 18 months you will acquire practical experience with our training partner ABB.

Training to be a specialist in warehousing logistics

What actually happens when you are shopping online and click on the “Order” button? You set a machine in motion that cannot be described in a few words here. What we can say, however, is that at some point your order will end up assigned to a specialist in warehousing logistics. And this specialist will know straight away what needs to be done to ensure that you receive the goods you have ordered as quickly as possible, in the right quantity and – of course – in perfect condition.

After your training with First Sensor, you will know how to store products that are particularly small and fragile expertly and securely to allow them to be swiftly picked, properly packaged and securely transported when an order comes in. This requires a high degree of diligence and organizational aptitude. You also require a knack for mathematics and basic calculations as well as proficient computer skills that will allow you to quickly locate the products that customers have ordered.

During your three years of training you will also learn how to receive deliveries, and how to inspect quantities and proper packaging with the aid of paper records. Your training will likewise cover how to organize speedy forwarding of goods to the right recipients. The training content will also include targeted conversational skills because having discussions with suppliers and customers requires a particular skill set.
