Jette-Mueller-First-Sensor
I'm there when medical technology is made more accurate.

"Appreciation enables us to shape the markets of tomorrow."

Jette Müller completed her micro-technologist training at the Dresden-Klotzsche site. She now works as a deputy shift supervisor. In addition, she wire bonds optical sensors for medical applications. Establishing connections is important to her – not only between sites, but also between the departments and people around her.

How did you end up at First Sensor?

I’ve never really been particularly technology-minded but my mother works as a micro-technologist. Her enthusiasm for tiny sensors that fulfill so many marvelous functions obviously rubbed off on me. I came across First Sensor at the KarriereStart trade fair in Dresden. A trainee at the fair explained the role of a micro-technologist so well to me that I thought “why not?” I spent a day working in the role as a trial and then decided to apply for the traineeship at First Sensor.

What do you do now?

I’m a deputy shift supervisor in the wire bonding department, which is based in the clean room. Wire bonding involves joining the chip to the housing. This used to be a laborious process, with each wire painstakingly individually connected by hand. Now this process is done by a machine that we load up with components. The modern method is much faster and much less susceptible to errors. In spite of this increase in quality, we still complete thorough checks before the sensor is passed on to the next department. There are seven people in my team, and most of them first got to know me as a trainee – some of them even helped to train me – but they still accept me as a deputy shift supervisor. I take this as a huge compliment, and it really motivates me in my role.

What do you think is important to do your job?

The value “proximity” is anchored in our corporate mission statement. This is rather apt because, in my opinion, proximity to our customers is what ensures our success. But proximity between employees is of at least equal importance. Mutually supporting one another and appreciating other people’s work enables us to cultivate and shape the markets of tomorrow.

What do you like about First Sensor?

The company never stops. It is constantly growing and adapting to market requirements. This means it never gets boring, which is why a sense of cohesion within the team is so important – the fact I have colleagues around me who I can rely on and who will work alongside me even on a Saturday to make sure we meet a delivery deadline. With so much going on, another important aspect is communication. The First Sensor Management Board sends out regular e-mail communications. There is also an employee magazine and a monthly newsletter, and all of this is aimed at creating transparency and interconnecting the various locations. I think this is a good thing.

What advice would you give to young professionals and recent graduates?

If you’re interested in technology and capable of seeing the bigger picture beyond your own role, you’ll fit in at First Sensor. The company allows you to experience the entire sensor technology value creation chain, from the chip right through to the specific sensor system application. This is a truly fascinating and innovative place to work.
